Reinvention has always been at the heart of Maceo Plex’s career. Driven by an instinct to forge his own path rather than follow established formulas, he has built a body of work that seamlessly connects techno, electro, breaks and IDM with unmistakable emotional depth.
Born in Miami to first-generation Cuban immigrants, Maceo Plex grew up immersed in the city’s rich musical culture before relocating to Dallas, where he honed his production skills and began releasing music under the aliases Maetrik and Mariel Ito. In 2010, after moving to Valencia, Spain, the Maceo Plex project emerged as the definitive expression of his artistic vision.
His productions have become modern electronic music landmarks. Tracks such as Solar Detroit, Conjure Balearia and Can’t Leave You have amassed tens of millions of streams while retaining the underground sensibility that has defined his career. Constantly evolving, his sound moves effortlessly between peak-time techno, cinematic electronica and intricate, forward-thinking productions.
Equally celebrated as a DJ, Maceo Plex has become a regular presence at the world’s leading clubs and festivals, from Ibiza and Berlin to Amsterdam, New York and beyond. His Boiler Room performances remain among the platform’s most iconic, highlighting the instinctive storytelling, precision and emotional tension that define his sets.
His creative universe extends far beyond a single alias. Through Maceo Plex, Maetrik and Mariel Ito, he explores different dimensions of electronic music while maintaining a singular artistic identity. This restless approach culminated in 93 (2023), one of his most personal works to date, blending techno, electro, breaks and IDM into a cinematic journey inspired by formative memories.
More than two decades into an extraordinary career, Maceo Plex continues to reshape electronic music on his own terms, remaining one of its most influential and visionary artists. This September, he returns to reworks, bringing one of contemporary electronic music’s most distinctive and emotionally charged performances to Thessaloniki.
