Max Cooper (3D A/V Show)

Few have been so successful in interrogating and furthering the intersection between electronic music, visual art, technology and science in the past decade as Max Cooper

London audio-visual maestro consistently proves himself to be one of the most peerlessly beautiful recording artists in modern dance music.

Working with collaborators and large-scale institutions like the Barbican, Zaha Hadid Architects and Dolby, Cooper has developed a mixed-media approach to creation. Whether walk-through light installations, groundbreaking use of immersive sound, or club-ready techno releases, Cooper’s output of electronic exploration makes use of available technology while referencing that which came before it, and does so in a human way.

His album ‘Yearning for the Infinite’ was created following commission from the Barbican to respond to their annual theme of “Life Rewired ”, exploring what it means to be human when technology is changing everything. The project encompasses film and web media as well as Cooper’s typically lush and emotive sonics, brings to life our insatiable desire for more via impactful storytelling, abstract visuals and audio.

This year, he released his fifth studio album. Described as a “raw expression” of his mental state, ‘Unspoken Words’ is a refreshingly down-to-earth effort that sticks to the magic found in mundane human connection more than the head-in-the-clouds utopianism of his contemporaries.

Synthesising his interests and presenting it in an accessible way that defies conventional format, Cooper explores concepts of emergence, identity and infinity to create an immersion of sound, vision and concept that can totally remove you from your normal experience of reality and put you somewhere new. At the core, Max Cooper’s mission as a musician, a DJ and an interdisciplinary artist is all about provoking a greater understanding.

Reworks proudly presents one of the brightest artists of our time in a spectacular 3D A/V Show on September 17th at Reworks.

Roi Perez

Roi Perez is causing a buzz as Panorama Bar’s resident.

He’s become known for his time-stretching, eclectic sets, careening through jacking house, cosmic techno, lustful disco, thick, muggy breakbeat and more.

Hailing from Tel Aviv he started playing records in the city’s queer club scene in 2011. Upon his move to Berlin two years on he continued his personal journey of establishing a coherent, creative and cheerful musical language, constantly refining his skills, style and knowledge until present day. Roi soon started playing Berlin’s busiest dancefloors, including Berghain’s Panorama Bar, where he holds a residency. Since then he’s gone to playing worldwide – in sweaty club booths, open air and festival stages.

His long, eclectic sets offer a dynamic musical journey through genres and styles, where house and techno music are weaved together with disco and breaks, creating a hypnotizing, powerful yet playful musical experience.

In Berlin he’s worked as a local music selector for London’s prestigious Phonica Records shop, where his love for vinyl, devotion and fascination with electronic music met his daily routine. Long time without any production endeavours he’s used the closure of club land for his debut as a producer: his collaboration with Avalon Emerson, the stellar peak time belter “Champu Princess”, was released on Ostgut Ton’s 2021 expansive anniversary compilation. But ultimately, Roi stays true to strictly playing records. House music always at the heart, his interaction and creative exchange with local vinyl collectors as well as fellow DJs remains key – both for his private life and his profession as a selector.

Catch him playing at Reworks Free Stage at Ypsilon on the afternoon of Thursday, September 15th.

Lebanon Hanover

No other pairing in the history of Darkwave ever matched the unfettered creativity, resolve, and DIY attitude from the collaboration between the two creative minds that compromise Lebanon Hanover

The meeting of the Swiss musician Larissa Georgiou, aka Larissa Iceglass and British artist William Maybelline a decade ago in the latter’s hometown of Sunderland in the UK, was a monumental occasion, reverberating throughout the European music scene and even across the Atlantic.

Lebanon Hanover would emerge from the peak of the world-wide minimal wave revival, with their 2011 split 7-inch record with La Fete Triste issued as the catalog debut of Europe’s most ubiquitous Techno-Industrial EBM labels, aufnahme + wiedergabe.

It will be hard to find another band that is bringing such a consistent dark atmosphere through the elegant and simple sound based on monotonic basslines, minor guitar chords, vintage synths and the infernal, deep vocals of the Lebanon Hanover members, Larissa and William.

With “Gallow’s Dance” becoming a post-punk anthem for the times, Lebanon Hanover as a live act would expand rapidly in popularity, exceeding capacity during their performances across Europe and the UK.

At the dawn of the global pandemic, where dystopian nightmares that were only ever seen before within the pages of books and flashes of silver screen celluloid, has become a daily reality, a new kind of darkness envelops the world. It was at this Lebanon Hanover returned, sharing a glimmer of hope with the single “The Last Thing,” the duo’s first song from their forthcoming sixth studio album Sci-Fi Sky.

She began headlining most of Kyiv’s underground nightclubs, played at “Ostrov” festival and “Techno Raczka” in Krakow. Soon after DJ Nastia offered Daria to perform a B2B which led to their first loud debut at Arma17’s birthday party event at Berlin’s “Funkhaus”. The performance prompted their further collaboration, which was followed by a tour in Brazil, performances in “Warung”, Boiler Room at Ibiza’s “Pacha”, “Rex” in Paris, “Fabric” in London, the Resistance party, Neopop Festival, Strichka, and many others. As a DJ, Daria never aims to deliver what is expected of her, but rather tries to convey her personal narratives through music. Daria sees music as the most genuine method of communication, empathy and unity – a tool that helps her transform her distinctive energy into a story that can be shared with people on the dance floor. She desires to not only provide a danceable and enjoyable set but inspire and introduce people to something fresh and daring. Daria bases her style on hard and groovy techno, which she frequently mixes with breakbeat, electro, hardcore, or jungle, which always makes her performances unexpected and rich in genres.

KAS:ST

KAS:ST consistently pushes the boundaries of techno music, fusing it with unusual and avant-garde styles

Each track they release is a journey bringing together dark and melancholic emotions without ever losing touch with the clubbing aspect of techno. A varied and always praised discography followed, with diverse releases on different renowned labels (Afterlife, Concrete Music, A.R.T.S, Materia…).

In 2019 they launched their new project Road To Nowhere spurred on as ever by their will to break codes and to think outside the box. The album synthesized the duo’s broad creative range: industrial techno, drum and bass, trap, symphonic tracks… It was a key moment in their career. Thanks to a unique and innovative format, as they released one track a month during a whole year outside of the usual channels of the techno scene, KAS:ST were able to unveil their full potential. The LP was extremely well received on streaming platforms: +20M plays across all, including the iconic Hell On Earth music video.

Hold Me To The Light, one of the flagship tracks of the EP, once again emphasized the duo’s will to renew techno codes by working this time with the London based singer Be No Rain. KAS:ST never ceased to push their music’s boundaries during that very prolific year, their tracks

getting remixes, for instance, by renowned artists at the polar opposite of the techno sphere like 999999999 and Tale Of Us, as long as an unexpected collaboration with Kerri Chandler or a powerful remix of Moby’s new album.

As their musical realm grows broader, their schedule gets busier. Their Live sets (brand new Live act first presented last November at Berghain-Panorama Bar) which attracted considerable attention and their bold DJ sets hypnotized their fair share of the best clubs and festivals around the world.

Innellea

When you think of someone who’s made a show-stunning impact on the world of melodic techno, your thoughts should immediately go to Innellea. The German producer and creative visionary has already been known as a master of all musical trades.

Innellea – a neologism; created in reference to musical reinvention. Neither restrained nor bound by conventions, Innellea’s visions and impressions are visibly transferred into music.

The Munich-based live act, DJ and producer combines melancholic, cinematic soundscapes and a distinct, percussive touch in his unique and abstract sound. The result is an intimate listening experience which hovers between melodic introspection and explosive, post-apocalyptic club music.

He took the scene by storm in 2019, leaving a dusty cloud in his wake. Innellea was first a secret weapon for some of the techno scene’s leading DJs, before his music was released via Afterlife, Innervisions and Diynamic. From then on, Innellea’s colourful and intricate rhythms captivated crowds worldwide. Tracks like ‘Vigilans’, ‘Forced to Bend’ and ‘The World Returns’ are good examples of the bold musical statements which define the project. From the success of his releases came live sets and a wealth of unreleased tracks, creating a global hype around his name.
